World Tourism Day is celebrated on the 27th of September each year. On this day, the Statutes of the UNWTO were adopted in 1970, which led to the organization’s establishment five years later. The theme for World Tourism Day 2023 is “Tourism and Green Investments”, which emphasizes the need for investments in the tourism industry to create jobs, protect the environment, and promote sustainable development.

Various festivities are held around the world to mark the occasion. For example, a halal restaurant of national cuisine called “Uzum Choykhona” opened in Samarkand in honor of the holiday. This restaurant is decorated in a traditional style, and offers masterclasses on preparing national dishes and baking Samarkand bread. This is expected to boost the city’s potential as a gastronomic tourism center.
