At a meeting of the International Notarial Cooperation Commission, attended by 150 representatives and experts from 33 countries, topics such as the notary’s role in combatting money laundering, financing terrorism, and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, as well as the part notaries play in the digital age, were discussed.
Uzbekistan’s Minister of Justice, Akbar Toshkulov, highlighted the reforms taking place in the country’s notary system, and the plans for the future. He noted that, since 2020, private notaries have been operating in Uzbekistan, and the Notary Chamber of Uzbekistan has been established. In 2021, the country’s notary system became a member of the International Union of Notaries, and certain requirements, such as the need for mandatory notarized confirmation of lease agreements, have been abolished.
Uzbekistan is making great strides in the realm of international notarial relations, having established cooperation with notary organizations in Russia, Germany, France, Italy, Türkiye, China, Japan, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Indonesia, Vietnam, Mongolia, Dominica, Benin, Ukraine, Lithuania, and other countries.
