The Institute for Macroeconomic and Regional Studies recently conducted an examination of the export of fruits and vegetables from Uzbekistan for the period of January-September 2023. During this time, 1,337.9 thousand tons of these products were shipped overseas, amounting to $831 million, representing a 9.3 percent increase in value compared to the same period in 2022.
The most exported items were peaches (nectarines) at 8.1%, fresh grapes at 7.7%, onions at 6.4%, cherries at 6.4%, raisins at 5.7%, apricots at 4.9%, melons and watermelons at 4.7%, and tomatoes at 4.2%. Fruits and vegetables accounted for 4.7 percent of the total exports.
Russia was the main recipient of Uzbekistan’s fruits and vegetables, acquiring 41.9% of the exports. Other major buyers were Pakistan (15.1%), Kazakhstan (12.2%), China (8.4%), Kyrgyzstan (8%), Turkey (2.4%), Belarus (1.6%), Afghanistan (1.4%), Iran (1%), and Iraq (0.9%).
