On September 19, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Secretary-General António Guterres of the United Nations (UN) held a meeting during the 78th session of the UN General Assembly in New York. They discussed the prospects of further strengthening the cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UN, particularly in achieving the national objectives of sustainable development.

The two leaders noted the significant progress that has been made in the Uzbek-UN partnership, with over 140 joint programs and projects implemented. Additionally, six resolutions of the UN General Assembly have been adopted at the initiative of Uzbekistan, and a Multi-Partner Human Security Trust Fund for the Aral Sea region is in operation.
Uzbekistan has also taken part in many authoritative UN structures, and has held several international events with a global agenda, such as those on food security, tourism, poverty, and climate change.

Secretary-General Guterres expressed his support for the reforms taking place in Uzbekistan and the importance of the proposals and initiatives made for resolving global and regional issues. He also praised the “Uzbekistan – 2030” reform strategy and its alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals, and offered the UN’s assistance in its implementation.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the two parties agreed to develop an action plan for deepening the full-scale partnership between Uzbekistan and the UN.
