In 2019, the heads of the two countries signed a memorandum at the Summit of the Organization of Turkic States, which initiated closer ties in the field of sericulture.
Azerbaijan has started organizing sericulture clusters, introduced deep processing of cocoons, and developed a forage base. An Uzbekistan-Azerbaijan joint venture, Az Silk, is being built in the Barda district with the support of the Uzbekipaksanoat Association. This spring, the enterprise produced 102 tons of cocoons in seven regions of Azerbaijan, using the knowledge of Uzbekistan. Furthermore, 80 people in Barda district were provided with permanent jobs. Azerbaijani colleagues are being mentored by 15 Uzbek experts in agricultural technology and cocoon processing.
