On September 19, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, attended the First Summit of the leaders of Central Asia and the United States of America in the “C5+1” format. President Joseph Biden, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan, President Sadyr Zhaparov of Kyrgyz Republic, President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan, and President Serdar Berdimuhamedov of Turkmenistan were also present.
The agenda included the prospects of boosting trade and economic ties, green development, energy security, and renewable energy sources, in addition to regional security, terrorism and cross-border crime.
It was highlighted that the “C5+1” format, which was established eight years ago in Samarkand, has become a popular platform for open and constructive dialogue and the growth of productive relationships between Central Asian countries and the United States.
President Mirziyoyev expressed appreciation for the strengthening of friendship, mutual understanding, and partnership in the Central Asian region, which presents fresh possibilities for wide collaboration.
Priority areas of cooperation that are essential for the development of the entire region were identified, such as enhancing trade and investment activities, setting up project cooperation, developing transport corridors in the region, advancing the green agenda, protecting human rights and gender equality, increasing educational programs, and promoting peaceful resolution in Afghanistan.
At the conclusion of the meeting, agreements were made to further deepen mutual understanding and increase practical partnership between the countries of the region and the United States.
