The President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and his spouse, accompanied by the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and his spouse, paid a visit to the city of Shusha. This city, known as the main pearl of Karabakh, the temple of the art of the Caucasus, and the cradle of Azerbaijani music, is the birthplace of numerous outstanding figures in the fields of science, culture, and art. In 2021, Shusha was made the Cultural Capital of Azerbaijan and in 2023, the city was declared the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World. This year, Shusha and Khiva became sister cities.

The distinguished guests began their tour of the city from the Saatli Mosque, built in 1883. Afterwards, they viewed the photo exhibition “Heydar Aliyev and Karabakh”, organized to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the National Leader of Azerbaijan’s birth. The President of Uzbekistan and his entourage then visited the main city square of Shusha, which features busts of prominent Azerbaijani cultural figures Khurshidbanu Natavan, Bulbul, and Uzeyir Hajibeyli. Additionally, they explored the “Khan Kyzy” spring, the house museum of Bulbul, the architectural monument “House of the Mehmandarovs”, and the famous plain tract of Jydir Duzu, where equestrian competitions were held.

At the conclusion of his state visit to Azerbaijan, the President of Uzbekistan returned to Tashkent.
