Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation will host the first conference to protect modernist architecture in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Entitled “Where in the World is Tashkent”, the event will take place on October 18-19, 2023 and will be dedicated to the memory of architect and historian Jean-Louis Cohen (1949-2023). The conference will be opened with a keynote lecture by architect Rem Koolhaas and feature talks from other distinguished speakers. It will be held at the State Museum of Arts in Tashkent and aims to bring the city’s modernist heritage to the world stage. Discussions will focus on the importance of preserving modernist architecture, reimagining public spaces, and the potentialities and challenges of Tashkent’s candidacy for UNESCO World Heritage status. The attendees will also be invited to take part in a walking tour of the cultural trail created by the ACDF and Laboratorio Permanente.
