On 25-26 September 2023, Tashkent will be the site of a regional workshop focusing on “Designing national counter-terrorism policy responses to counter the use of new technologies for terrorist purposes, while respecting human rights”. This event is being organized by the State Security Service of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT).

This regional workshop is part of the knowledge development phase of CT TECH, a joint initiative between UNOCT-UN Counter-Terrorism Centre (UNCCT) and INTERPOL, with financial support from the European Union.

The regional workshop in Tashkent is expected to bring together more than 50 national representatives with expertise in countering terrorism. These representatives will come from Central Asian countries and Mongolia, and will include those from government and legislative structures, counter-terrorism agencies, law enforcement agencies, and criminal justice agencies, as well as representatives from civil society, the private sector, and educational institutions.

The workshop’s goal is to increase awareness and spread new knowledge to the participants, so that they can gain and apply new knowledge and skills related to the challenges and opportunities posed by new technologies in the context of countering terrorism, while respecting human rights and the rule of law.
