Tajikistan and China Hold Business Meeting to Discuss Interregional Trade and Economic Cooperation

DUSHANBE, 12.07.2023 (NIAT Khovar) – A business meeting on interregional trade and economic cooperation «Tajikistan — China» was held on July 10 in Dushanbe.

The event was attended by heads and representatives of the Committee for Investments and State Property Management, the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, administration of the Khatlon Region, entrepreneurs and investors from Tajikistan and China.

19 organizations from Xinjiang province and up to 80 Tajik entrepreneurs from industries such as energy, agriculture, mining and others met to explore opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation, search for partners, present the economic, trade and investment potential of Tajikistan, increase imports and exports of products and other issues.

According to the representative of the Committee for Investments and State Property Management, in the modern world, the business sector is one of the main ones for the development of the country’s economy, and Tajikistan pays special attention to this area.

“We are interested in establishing cooperation with Chinese entrepreneurs, in particular with representatives of Xinjiang province. We are confident that the meeting will provide an opportunity for both parties to find partners and cooperate for the benefit and development of Tajikistan and China. China is one of the main economic and trade partners of Tajikistan. Over the past 10 years, Chinese investors have contributed more than $2.6 billion to the Tajik economy,” the representative of the Committee noted.

According to the Chinese Ambassador to Tajikistan Ji Shumin, today there is a unique opportunity for business cooperation between Tajikistan and China, including in the regional plan.

“Our relations are at a high level. The leaders of our countries have established a strong friendly relationship. Today’s event is an important step in the implementation of the agreement between our countries. This year marks 10 years since the adoption of the Belt and Road Initiative. Tajikistan became one of the first states that supported cooperation on the joint implementation of this initiative, and signed documents on cooperation with China. The promotion of the Belt and Road Initiative has brought tremendous energy and vitality to our cooperation. Tajikistan is an active participant in the initiative. Over the past 10 years, China and Tajikistan have achieved fruitful results in the joint construction of the One Belt, One Road initiative. China has been one of Tajikistan’s most important trading partners and the largest source of foreign investment in Tajikistan for many years. China is not only the largest investor in Tajikistan, but also the largest trading partner of Tajikistan and a close neighbor,” the ambassador said.

It was noted that thanks to the political wisdom of the heads of the two states, the level of political mutual trust between Tajikistan and China is constantly growing, bilateral relations between the countries are becoming more meaningful.

A mutually beneficial exchange of experience took also place as part of the meeting. The participants made proposals for cooperation.
