The Ministry of Health and Welfare in Seoul declared on Tuesday that they will keep state health insurance premiums the same for next year, the first time this has been done in seven years.
The government has chosen to do this as the financial status of the insurance program is in a relatively sound condition and they are looking to alleviate the economic stress of the people with the current high inflation and interest rates.
This will be the third time the premium has been frozen, with the last two times being in 2017 and 2009.
Under the law, South Koreans must join the health insurance program, and foreign citizens living in the country can also subscribe to it.
