On Wednesday, the South Korean government announced a pest control initiative to contain the spread of lumpy skin disease, a viral infection that affects cattle. The campaign will take place from November 1st to 10th in response to the first case of the disease, which was reported on October 20th. There are currently 70 confirmed cases, with four suspected cases under investigation. Vaccinations are expected to be completed by November 10th.
The virus, which does not affect humans, can cause skin lesions, fever, and a decrease in appetite, potentially leading to death. Cattle in Seosan, 98 kilometers southwest of Seoul, are pictured waiting to be vaccinated in the photo above.
