South Korea and Britain are teaming up to host a mini virtual summit in 2021 as part of the inaugural Global AI Safety Summit, the South Korean Science Ministry announced on Thursday. The mini summit is scheduled to take place six months before the second annual AI Safety Summit to evaluate the progress of the measures from the first event held in Bletchley Park, England.
Science Minister Lee Jong-ho expressed his enthusiasm for the joint venture, saying, “I am pleased that South Korea and the United Kingdom are jointly hosting the mini summit. South Korea is committed to making a responsible contribution to advancing the discussion on establishing a global framework for the safe use of AI.”
At the AI summit, representatives and companies from 28 countries, including South Korea and the United States, released a joint declaration urging the global community to explore strategies for mitigating potential risks caused by the rapid development of AI technologies.
