On Thursday, South Korea and Finland formalized a Trade and Investment Promotion Framework (TIPF) agreement in Seoul to mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The nonbinding agreement is intended to strengthen their ties in the areas of supply chains, digital economy, and other economic and industrial sectors.

This is the eighth TIPF deal for South Korea, whose other partner nations include the United Arab Emirates, the Dominican Republic, Hungary, Poland, and Uzbekistan. Roh Keon-ki, Deputy Minister for Trade Negotiations, expressed hope that the agreement will serve as a foundation for enhanced collaboration in new and diverse areas.

Prior to the signing ceremony, Roh met with Finland’s Under-Secretary of State Jarno Syrjala and requested the European nation’s support for South Korea’s bid to host the 2030 World Expo in its southern port city of Busan.
