On Monday, South Korean battery maker SK On Co. declared that it had inked a supply agreement with Swedish electric vehicle (EV) maker Polestar to provide battery cell modules for the latter’s forthcoming EV model.

In accordance with the deal, SK On will begin supplying battery cell modules for Polestar’s four-door grand tourer EV model, Polestar 5, in 2025, according to the battery-making unit of SK Group.

SK On’s ultra-long high-nickel batteries, which are composed of 56-centimeter-long cells, will be powering the Polestar 5. These batteries have passed stringent conditions in thermal spread tests to guarantee improved safety, the company noted.

The SK On-Polestar supply deal was the result of the Korean firm’s investment in the Swedish company and a memorandum of understanding to reinforce their cooperation in the EV field in 2021.
