Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States Visits Mongolia

During the dates of 17-20 March 2025, Ambassador Kubanychbek Omuraliev, who serves as the Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), embarked on a working trip to Mongolia in response to an invitation from the Mongolian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This momentous visit marked the first time an OTS Secretary General has visited Mongolia, showcasing the growing relationship between Mongolia and its fellow OTS Member States.

Throughout the visit, Secretary General Omuraliev held meetings with prominent Mongolian officials, diplomats, and scholars to discuss potential avenues for increased cooperation in political, economic, cultural, and academic fields.

The trip began with a meeting between Secretary General Omuraliev and Battsetseg Batmunkh, the Minister of Foreign Affairs. The discussions focused on strengthening the partnership between Mongolia and the OTS, highlighting their shared historical ties and long-standing relations.

During a meeting with Zandanshatar Gombojav, Chief of the Office of the President of Mongolia, the Secretary General emphasized the historical connections between the Turkic and Mongolian peoples and explored opportunities for elevating Mongolia’s involvement with OTS Member States to a strategic level.

At a meeting with Byambajargal Altangerel, Secretary of the National Security Council of Mongolia, the discussions centered around regional security, Mongolia’s “Third Neighbor” strategy, and ways to deepen collaboration between Mongolia and OTS Member States.

Secretary General Omuraliev also engaged in talks with Regdel Duger, a Member of the State Great Hural (Parliament) of Mongolia, to discuss strengthening parliamentary relations and cooperation through the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States (TURKPA).

Additionally, the Secretary General had a valuable exchange with Former President Enkhbayar Nambar, discussing regional developments and Mongolia’s growing connections with OTS Member States.

A formal dinner hosted by Başak Genç Yüksel, Ambassador of Türkiye to Mongolia, provided an opportunity for the Secretary General to meet with H.E. Gabit Koishibayev, Ambassador of Kazakhstan, and Aibek Artykbaev, Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan. The gathering allowed for the exchange of views on Mongolia’s role in the Turkic World and potential for closer cooperation.

During the visit, Secretary General Omuraliev also visited the Mongolian Academy of Sciences, where he delivered a keynote speech as a Guest of Honor. He shared insights on OTS’s activities, its partnerships with international organizations, and the significance of academic collaborations in strengthening historical and cultural bonds between Mongolia and the Turkic World. The Secretary General also met with directors from the Institute of History and Ethnology and the Institute of Archaeology to discuss opportunities for academic cooperation.

In addition to official meetings, Secretary General Omuraliev also visited important historical and cultural sites, such as the Chinggis Khaan Museum and the Chinggis Khaan Statue Complex, further highlighting the shared historical heritage between Mongolia and the Turkic World.

The visit of Secretary General Omuraliev to Mongolia marked a significant milestone in the deepening ties between the two nations. During the meetings, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation in various fields and emphasized Mongolia’s active involvement in regional initiatives within the OTS framework.

The Organization of Turkic States remains dedicated to strengthening partnerships, enhancing economic cooperation, and promoting cultural exchange.
