Samarkand is currently hosting the Central Asian Youth Environmental Forum, which is aimed at creating a Central Asian Strategy to foster a culture of sustainable environmental development and involve children and adolescents in the climate agenda.
Over 60 environment activists from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan are taking part in the event. It is being organized with the help of the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change, the Ministry of Preschool and School Education, and the Ministry of Youth Policy and Sports, as well as with the participation of the “Zamin” International Public Foundation, UNICEF, UNESCO, UNDP, and FAO.
The participants of the forum were taken on a tour of Samarkand, where they had the opportunity to explore the city’s cultural and historical monuments, the Eternal City complex, and other attractions.
The forum is being held in connection with the Conference of the Parties (COP 28) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in the United Arab Emirates, which seeks to recognize the role of youth in the fight against climate change, create a platform for young environmental activists to present their proposals and initiatives, and integrate the youth environmental movement in Central Asia.
Workshops, meetings with international experts, and discussions of the Central Asian Strategy will be held during the forum.
