DUSHANBE, 20.07.2023 (NIAT Khovar) – Tajikistan has proposed the establishment of a Regional Center for Transport Diplomacy in Dushanbe.
This initiative was discussed on July 12 at the High-level Political Forum of the UN Economic and Social Council. The event was organized in partnership with the Intergovernmental Council of Road Workers and the International Center for Transport Diplomacy.
Minister of Transport Azim Ibrohim reported on Tajikistan’s initiative to create a Regional Center for Transport Diplomacy in Dushanbe, which was endorsed by President Emomali Rahmon.
He noted that the establishment of the first Regional Center of Transport Diplomacy in Dushanbe should be considered as a major event in the transport sector. The Center is expected to make a significant contribution to the achievement of the objectives of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
UN Under Secretary-General, High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States Fatima Rabab highlighted the importance and timeliness of the topic and supported Tajikistan’s initiative.
The initiative was welcomed by other speakers at the event, including the Secretary General of the Permanent Secretariat of the TRACECA Intergovernmental Commission, the Head of the Intergovernmental Council of Road Workers, the Executive Secretary of the International Center for Transport Diplomacy, representatives of educational institutions and trade associations of Central Asian countries.
In addition, the first Global Student Competition on Supply Chain Sustainability was also announced.
It should be noted that the need to create a Regional Center for Transport Diplomacy in Dushanbe was first expressed by the Minister of Transport of Tajikistan Azim Ibrohim at the 10th Meeting of SCO Transport Ministers, which took place on April 28, 2023 in Delhi.
