Authorities are taking action to contain the spread of lumpy skin disease, a viral infection that does not affect humans but can cause skin lesions, fever, and loss of appetite in cattle. South Korea has confirmed 67 cases since the first outbreak on October 20, and the government plans to finish vaccinating all cattle by November 10.
On Monday, the first case was reported in South Gyeongsang Province, suggesting that the disease may continue to spread. Vaccines typically take three weeks to generate antibodies in cattle, and the disease can lead to decreased milk production and death.
