Today, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov traveled to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for a working visit to take part in the Summit of leaders of member states of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC) and the countries of Central Asia. The Summit, which will be held in Jidda, is intended to further advance effective interstate and inter-regional collaboration that is beneficial to the common good and progress. Government officials saw off the President of Turkmenistan at the Ashgabat international airport.
The head of state conversed with the representative of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at the air harbor prior to his departure. The conversation emphasized the consistently friendly nature of the rapidly developing mutual relations in all areas. Great importance is given to productive cultural-humanitarian contacts as well as mutually beneficial trade and economic connections. Turkmenistan and Saudi Arabia also cooperate structurally within important international and regional organizations and structures. In this context, it was hoped that the current visit and participation of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov in the Summit in the format GCC+ Central Asia would serve to intensify productive partnership on both a bilateral and multilateral basis.
When the presidential aircraft landed at the King Abdul Aziz international airport, national flags of the Gulf and Central Asian countries were raised on the flagpoles along the carpet path leading from the plane’s ramp. Guards of honor lined up on both sides of the path.
Officials warmly welcomed President Serdar Berdimuhamedov at the airport. Over a cup of tea, the head of Turkmenistan conversed with the official representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in which the high level of interstate dialogue was noted with satisfaction and the mutual intention of the two countries to strengthen bonds of friendship and mutually beneficial partnership of great potential was underlined. The President thanked for the hearty welcome extended on the sacred land of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and noted that Turkmenistan, from its side, is ready to further expand effective cooperation and enrich its content.
From the airport, the head of state went to his residence for the duration of his working visit.
Tomorrow, on the sidelines of his visit, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov will take part in the Summit in the format of GCC+ Central Asia, the agenda of which will include pressing issues of interstate cooperation in the interregional dimension.
Consistently implementing its foreign policy, which is based on principles of peaceful disposition, positive neutrality and “open doors”, Turkmenistan is focused on developing fruitful partnership on an equal basis with all countries of the planet, including the states of the Arabic world. A bright example of this is the traditional relations with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, cemented with mutual goodwill of the sides.
At the current period, Turkmen-Saudi cooperation, based on a strong foundation of mutual respect and trust, finds a new dimension. Thus, the historically developed commonality of spiritual-moral values, which unite two fraternal peoples who display loyalty to ancient wise traditions, acts as an important factor. One of such traditions is the fulfillment of the hajj obligation. In Turkmenistan, all conditions are created for our compatriots to visit the Islamic holy sites, following centuries-old spiritual traditions.
In this regard, it is necessary to point out that on June 29-30, during the celebration of the Gurban bayramy, National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov visited the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where he performed the hajj to Mecca and gave gurbanlyk-sadaka in which prayers for the souls of the parents of Hajy Arkadag – Malikguly aga and Ogulabat eje were read.
It is also noteworthy that from the moment he assumed office in 2022, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov made his first foreign visit to the sacred land of the Islamic world, where he performed the Umra hajj.
This year, thanks to the assistance and support of the state, about two and a half thousand Turkmen pilgrims visited the sacred cities of Mecca and Medina for all Muslims. This displays the embodiment of the priorities of the political strategy of Turkmenistan, implemented under the leadership of Arkadagly Hajy Serdar – a worthy successor to the noble causes and undertakings of hajy Arkadag.
Relations of our Fatherland with other countries of the Near East, in particular, with those that are part of the Cooperation Council of Arab States of the Gulf, are based on principles of friendship, mutual respect and trust. Official and state visits of the President of Turkmenistan to the Kingdom of Bahrain and the State of Qatar, as well as an official visit of Hero-Arkadag to the United Arab Emirates this year, became important steps for the development of productive interaction in the given area.
Relations of Turkmenistan are based on indestructible bonds of good neighborhood and brotherhood, historically developed links, principles of mutually beneficial partnership with countries of Central Asia. One of the visible examples of this is the outcome of the state visit of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov to the Republic of Tajikistan, which took place this year.
Thus, the participation of the head of Turkmenistan in the upcoming Summit is the next proof of the country’s adherence to an active and initiative stance in the development of constructive bilateral and multilateral cooperation, new dynamics and long-term character, and the optimal realization of available economic and humanitarian potential for the common good and sustainable development.
