On September 19th, during the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev had a dialogue with the WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. The two discussed the steps taken to guarantee Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO.
The President of Uzbekistan highlighted the significance of joining the organization, including the aims of medium- and long-term development.

President Mirziyoyev spoke about the preparation for the next meeting of the Working Group, as well as the enhancement of the capabilities and expertise of the personnel involved in the process.
The WTO Director-General praised the measures taken by Uzbekistan to join the organization.

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala guaranteed the WTO Secretariat’s full assistance for Uzbekistan’s attempts and faith in the nation’s accession in the near future.
After the meeting, an agreement was reached to hasten the next meeting of the Working Group, enhance the qualifications of experts, and help in aligning legislation with WTO agreements and regulations.
