Passports Awarded to Newly Naturalized Citizens of Turkmenistan

On the national holiday of Independence Day, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov held a ceremony to recognize the new citizens of Turkmenistan by presenting them with passports. This event symbolized the country’s commitment to humanitarian values and goodwill. At the meeting of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan, the President declared that Turkmenistan is progressing towards its goals and is striving to provide its citizens with a prosperous life. He had previously granted citizenship to 1,301 people from 32 nationalities and 265 people from 13 countries and 25 nationalities were given residence permits.

The new citizens thanked President Serdar Berdimuhamedov for his consideration of stateless persons and for giving them the chance to have a successful life. The Law of Turkmenistan “On Migration” was adopted in 2012 and since then, 29,697 people living in the country who were not citizens of any state have been granted citizenship. Additionally, 4,753 foreign citizens and stateless persons have been given residence permits.

Turkmenistan is a permanent member of the International Organization for Migration and is actively involved in projects and programs in this field. The nation has also agreed to the main UN conventions concerning refugees, stateless persons, and the reduction of statelessness, thereby honoring its commitments. This event demonstrated the nation’s dedication to international law and the humanitarian initiatives of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
