According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, almost 70 percent of the cattle population in South Korea have been given shots to protect them against lumpy skin disease. As of Thursday, 2.8 million of the 4 million cows have been vaccinated, and the program is expected to be completed by November 10.

The disease, which does not affect humans, causes skin lesions, fever, and a decrease in appetite, often leading to a decrease in milk production and even death. So far, South Korea has reported 75 cases of the illness.

Officials administer vaccine shots to cattle at a farm in Gyeongsan, 250 kilometers southeast of Seoul, on Nov. 1, 2023. (Yonhap)
