The Uzbekspace Agency of the Ministry of Digital Technologies of the Republic of Uzbekistan recently hosted the NASA Space Apps Hackathon at Tashkent InnoTechnoPark. This international event brings together professionals from all kinds of backgrounds, such as programmers, designers, scientists, entrepreneurs, and more, to collaborate and use NASA’s open knowledge to solve various issues.

The main objectives of the Hackathon are to raise public awareness of the aerospace sector, foster cooperation between space agencies, and discover new talent from young professionals. Every year, over 30,000 people from 160 countries take part in the competition, and this year, 250 applications out of 350 were accepted.

The winning teams developed programs such as “WyeDust” for predicting solar flares to protect equipment in space and on earth, “Typhoon” for predicting the development of forest fires based on artificial satellite data, and “PhDʼs” for visualizing earthquake maps based on the history of monthly seismic observations. These teams will now go on to participate in the NASA international competition in the United States.
