McDonald’s Korea announced on Friday that it has rolled out a voice guidance service for its self-service kiosks at select locations in Seoul, making it the first fast food chain in Asia to do so. The move is part of the company’s effort to provide better accessibility and convenience for customers with vision impairments.
The new software and touch pads have been installed in 15 McDonald’s stores near social welfare agencies and schools for the visually disabled. Customers can plug in their own earphones to the kiosks and receive voice prompts.
This is McDonald’s second voice guidance service, following the one launched in the U.S., and the first in South Korea. The fast food chain plans to expand the service to all its locations in the country.
“We have been aware of the need to install voice guidance services at kiosks for visually impaired customers and have been researching and developing the service for some time,” said a company official.
