Passengers traveling between London and Brighton are being warned of delays due to the high temperatures expected on Monday and Tuesday.

The South East is expected to reach temperatures of up to 34C (93F) on Monday and even higher on Tuesday, with an amber heat health alert in effect.

Network Rail has stated that the extreme heat will cause the track temperature to rise to 50C (122F), resulting in speed restrictions and a revised timetable.

Those planning to use the Brighton Main Line are advised to check the National Rail website before beginning their journey.

Timetables can also be found on the websites of operators Southern, Thameslink, and Gatwick Express.

A spokesperson for Network Rail explained, “Unfortunately, this means that we will not be able to run as many trains as usual and journeys may take longer. Trains that are running will also be much more crowded. If possible, working from home may be the best option.”
