SEOUL, Nov. 8 (Yonhap) — The Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) stayed almost the same at 2,442.87 at 11:20 a.m. on Wednesday morning after opening higher, in step with the advances on Wall Street the night before.
At the beginning of the session, the KOSPI had risen up to almost 1 percent, but then began to decline as foreign and retail investors went on a selling spree.
Tech and chemical stocks were among the hardest hit, with Samsung Electronics down 0.71 percent and LG Chem dropping 1.42 percent. Automakers Hyundai Motor and Kia also fell 0.4 percent and 0.13 percent, respectively.
Bio-related stocks, however, performed better, with SK bioscience gaining 2.97 percent and Celltrion rising 1.35 percent.
The local currency was trading at 1266.60 won against the U.S. dollar at 11:20 a.m., an increase of 8.30 won from the previous day’s close.
