On Friday, Kia Corp., South Korea’s second-largest car manufacturer, announced the recall of nearly 320,000 vehicles in the U.S. due to a problem with the trunk. The affected models are the 2016-2017 Rio subcompact car, the 2016-18 Optima and 2017-18 Optima hybrid and plug-in hybrid sedans, according to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The issue is that the trunk latch may be prone to cracking, making it impossible to open from the inside, potentially trapping people inside. Thankfully, no crashes or injuries have been reported in relation to this recall. Kia is asking vehicle owners to bring their cars to dealerships to have the faulty latch replaced, free of charge.
