The police have begun an investigation on Monday after a box cutter was located in a Jin Air aircraft that was preparing to take off from Incheon International Airport, according to officials.
At around 9:15 a.m., a security guard filed a report informing that the utility knife was discovered under the seat of the passenger plane operated by the South Korean low-cost carrier, as stated by airport police.
The Jin Air aircraft had just returned from Narita International Airport in Japan to Incheon, South Korea’s main airport west of Seoul, the day before and was set to fly to Guam in the morning.
The blade measured approximately 5.5 centimeters long and seemed to have been there for some time, given its dusty appearance.
“At this point, we do not think there is any reason to suspect terrorism in connection to the utility knife,” a police official declared. “We will further investigate how it got onto the plane.”
A Jin Air representative stated that the report was filed with the relevant authorities following the necessary procedures and that they will “assist with the investigation.”
