On September 7-8, the Uzbek city of Samarkand will host the International Conference on Food Security, attended by ministers and diplomats from more than 30 countries across Asia and Europe. The event is organized by the Government of Uzbekistan and supported by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
The Conference will review the state of food security in the world, with particular focus on Central Asia, and seek solutions to key agrifood system challenges standing in the way of achieving the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2, which is to eliminate hunger and improve food security and nutrition by 2030.
Uzbekistan will present its achievements in reforming the agricultural sector, and will look to the experience of the world community to learn about innovative solutions. The Conference will also discuss the effects of climate change on food production, water scarcity, and land degradation, as well as the establishment of green and express corridors between countries for the direct supply of quality and affordable food.
In addition to the Conference, an exhibition showcasing the agrifood potential of Uzbekistan and the 1st Agrifood Investment Forum of Uzbekistan will also be held. Over 50 companies from Germany, Italy, Israel, Hungary, the Republic of Korea, Poland, Azerbaijan, and Kazakhstan will take part in the Forum.
