The Republic of Uzbekistan is currently engaging in economic collaboration with France, and one of the major undertakings is the “Modernization of Solid Waste Management in Samarkand City” project. Nurbek Saidov, the Director of the project, explains that the French Development Agency has granted 23.53 million euros and the European Union has contributed 8 million euros to fund the purchase of eighty pieces of special equipment for collecting and removing solid household waste, as well as five machines for collection, loading, and cleaning for the city’s landfill. Additionally, the funds are being used to construct a new garage for storing the special equipment, a waste collection complex, and other related facilities. The completion date of the project has been extended to June 30, 2024.
An international tender was held to select a company to sign a contract, and the negotiations are still ongoing. As part of the project, a plant for sorting household waste and a system for processing biogas into fuel is being constructed. The complex includes deodorization, dust removal systems, and other features to ensure the safety of workers and the environment. Furthermore, a geographic information network and software for managing information systems is being developed.
