Foreign Trade Turnover between Tajikistan and Japan in 2023 Increases by 1.7 Times

DUSHANBE, 04.08.2023 (NIAT Khovar) – On August 3, the Minister of Economic Development and Trade Zavki Zavkizoda held a meeting with Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan Ms. Yoshikawa Yuumi.

It was noted with joy that the foreign trade turnover between Tajikistan and Japan for the first half of 2023 had grown by 1.7 times compared to the same period in the previous year. The foreign trade turnover of Tajikistan and Japan in 2022 was $108.5 million.

The parties signed memorandums between the Government of Tajikistan and the Government of Japan, within the framework of the Japan International Cooperation Volunteers Program (JOCV). According to these documents, Japan will send experienced experts (doctors, engineers, technologists, programmers, designers and others) to the priority socio-economic sectors of Tajikistan without charging a fee.

The parties also discussed matters related to expanding bilateral trade cooperation, including increasing funding for important projects of Tajikistan, creating joint industrial enterprises using Japan’s advanced technologies in free economic zones, exporting Tajikistan’s eco-friendly products and creating logistics centers.

It should be noted that 2,500 citizens of Tajikistan were trained under the program of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and 100 civil servants — under the grant project «Educational Scholarships for Human Resource Development (JDS)» in Japan.

The meeting also focused on the issue of establishing cooperation in the field of labor migration.

In addition, the parties exchanged views on establishing cooperation in the implementation of green and digital economy projects in Tajikistan.
