The Public Foundation for Support and Development of National Mass Media and the French Embassy in Uzbekistan, in the framework of Global Media Literacy Week, held a seminar for media professionals to assess the importance of journalistic ethics during times of hardship. The France 24 channel’s correspondent, senior reporter, and presenter, Elena Voloshina, gave a speech.
Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Public Foundation for Support and Development of National Mass Media Nozima Davletova stated that the significance of this event is due to the fact that not everyone is able to differentiate between journalism and propaganda.
– We are living in a post-truth era. It is essential, especially for media professionals, to distinguish between factual, accurate information and attempts to impose a subjective opinion.
At the workshop, such aspects as “fact”, “opinion”, and “version” when presenting information were discussed in detail. Particular emphasis was placed on journalistic ethics when creating content, especially when the information is related to conflict situations. As noted, in these cases, priority should not be placed on the speed of news delivery, but rather on verifying facts, since such information affects the interests of many people and errors can lead to large-scale negative consequences.
