The Tashkent Modernism XX/XXI project recently hosted the conference “Where in the World is Tashkent?” which included a tour of the “cultural trail” created by the Art and Culture Development Foundation of Uzbekistan and the Milan Bureau Laboratorio Permanente. This trail offers a unique opportunity to both appreciate the beauty of Tashkent and support the city’s growth. It demonstrates the historic layout of the capital and hints at potential strategies for further development. Rather than only viewing modernist buildings as individual structures, the trail reveals their relationship to their surroundings and how they can be combined to create a larger system of communal spaces.
The “cultural trail” route included two dozen buildings that were featured in the Tashkent Modernism XX/XXI project and conceptualized as cultural heritage sites.
