Exploring New Avenues of Trade and Economic Cooperation Between Uzbekistan and the United States

Recently, the President of Uzbekistan visited the United States. Beforehand, the government delegation of the country had taken part in multiple events in the US. The Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade Laziz Kudratov met with the U.S. Deputy Secretary of Commerce, Deputy Trade Representative, and World Bank Vice President and held talks with the leadership of large companies.

The discussions revolved around the renewal of Uzbekistan’s beneficiary status in the GSP program, organizing the 7th meeting of the Working Group on Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO, and the creation of a joint consultative platform to eliminate barriers to mutual trade. Negotiations were also held regarding the preparation of intergovernmental agreements on the mutual protection of investments and the avoidance of double taxation.

Furthermore, the parties agreed to further cooperate in green agenda, the development of human capital, support for the private sector, the introduction of public-private partnership mechanisms, reducing the state’s role in the economy, privatization, and the development of small and medium-sized businesses.

Additionally, talks were held with the leadership of the American Apparel and Footwear Association, corporations Starlink, Medtronic, Colourizd, Pfizer, B2Gold, Morgan Stanley, Akin Gump, Cerberus Frontier, and other large companies. The issues of attracting U.S. direct investment to Uzbekistan in various projects were also discussed.
