DUSHANBE, 05.12.2023 (NIAT Khovar) – On December 3, during COP28, the Minister of Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan Daler Juma discussed the crucial role of hydropower in adapting to climate change and achieving sustainable development. The session was titled “Ensuring sustainable growth through hydropower.”
The construction of the Rogun HPP, which produces clean energy, the CASA-1000 project, and Tajikistan’s plans for the development of renewable energy sources were highlighted as major contributions to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and ensuring water and energy security in the Central Asian region.
In addition, the Minister of Energy and Water Resources met with the President of the International Hydropower Association Malcolm Turnbull. The conversation focused on expanding cooperation between the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources and the International Hydropower Association, Tajikistan’s plans for the development of renewable energy sources, and how the Association can help draw in international investment for Tajikistan.
Representatives of the TGEM Open Joint Stock Company provided the International Hydropower Association with information on Tajikistan’s priority plans for the development of renewable energy sources.
Following the meeting, the parties decided to further strengthen cooperation in the area of attracting investments and developing renewable energy sources.
