At the United Nations Human Rights Council’s Working Group on the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) meeting taking place in Geneva from 6-17 November 2023, the human rights situation in Uzbekistan will be assessed. This will be the fourth review, with the first, second, and third reviews occurring in December 2018, April 2013, and May 2018 respectively.
Uzbekistan is one of 14 countries whose human rights situation will be reviewed at the session in Geneva. The Working Group consists of 47 member states of the Human Rights Council, and all 193 UN member states are eligible to participate in the review. The UPR will provide an expert evaluation of the human rights conditions in all 193 UN member states.
The Uzbekistan delegation will be headed by the First Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, Akmal Saidov, and Director of the National Center for Human Rights.
