Cooperation between Tajikistan and the IAEA is Positively Developing in Many Areas

At the 67th session of the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, from September 25 to 29, a delegation from Tajikistan, headed by Deputy Minister of Industry and New Technologies Aziz Nazar, participated.

The representatives of both sides noted a high level of cooperation between Tajikistan and the IAEA in various fields, including the peaceful application of nuclear technology within the framework of IAEA programs and other significant projects in the area of health, environmental protection, especially glacier conservation within the framework of the fifth initiative of the President of Tajikistan to declare 2025 as the International Year of Glacier Protection.

The importance of remediation of territories damaged by uranium production in Central Asian countries was also highlighted, and the results of completed rehabilitation work, existing difficulties, and the need to implement additional measures were noted.

During the conference, the country’s delegation held separate meetings with representatives of foreign countries to discuss areas of cooperation and joint implementation of the IAEA Strategic Master Plan for the rehabilitation of radioactive waste sites in the countries of Central Asia.
