The Republic of Karakalpakstan celebrated the 1050th anniversary of the birth of Abu Rayhon Beruni with an international scientific-practical conference. This event was hosted by the Republican Center for Spirituality and Enlightenment, the Academy of Sciences, the National Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan for UNESCO, the Art and Culture Development Foundation, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Jokargy Kenes and the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Karakalpakstan. Scholars from Egypt, Türkiye, India, Iran, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, China, Sweden, Russia, and Afghanistan were in attendance.
The guests visited the symbolic grave of Beruni, recited surahs from the Quran, and planted tree seedlings. They also visited the monument to the scientist in the district’s center and an exhibition of books and paintings dedicated to the life and scientific work of Abu Rayhon Beruni at the Palace of Culture.
At the conference, A. Orinbayev, Chairman of the Jokargy Kenes of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, gave a speech about the initiatives of the Head of state to study, promote, and honor the exemplary life path of great scientists, their rich scientific and spiritual heritage, and the importance of the conference. Lectures were heard on “Scientists of Central Asia in world civilization: the scientific heritage of Abu Rayhon Beruni”, “The contribution of Abu Rayhon Beruni to the development of world civilization”, and “The global significance of the scientific heritage of Abu Rayhon Beruni”.
The event concluded with a gala concert in the Amphitheater of the regional center, after which the participants of the conference and enlightenment events departed for Khorezm region.
