The House of Korean Culture and Art in Tashkent recently hosted a Chuseok celebration, a Korean holiday that marks the harvest season. This event was attended by representatives from ministries, agencies, diplomatic missions, media, and locals from Tashkent and its surrounding areas. It was organized by the Association of Korean Cultural Centers with the support of the Korean Embassy in Uzbekistan and the Committee on Interethnic Relations and Friendly Ties with Foreign Countries.

Chuseok is a three-day festival that usually takes place around the time of the Autumnal Equinox. During this time, South Koreans often travel to their ancestral homes and partake in traditional feasts. The opening ceremony featured speeches from the Chairman of the Association of Korean Cultural Centers of Uzbekistan and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to the Republic of Uzbekistan. Alina Khan, head of the “Asadal” folk ensemble, was awarded the “Friendship of Peoples” badge for her efforts in promoting friendship between different nationalities.

The celebration included a photo exhibition that displayed the life of Koreans in Uzbekistan and their resettlement to Central Asia. Creative groups performed, and festive pilaf was served according to the tradition of the Uzbek people. N.Usmanova, UzA correspondent, reported that the Chuseok celebration was a great success and a wonderful way to commemorate Korean heritage.
