As of Thursday, nearly 4 million cattle in South Korea had been administered a vaccine for lumpy skin disease, with around 2.8 million of them, or 68.8 percent, having already received the shot, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.
The vaccination program is expected to conclude by next Friday, yet authorities anticipate the emergence of new cases in the next three weeks while the cattle build up antibodies.
To date, the country has reported 76 instances of the disease, which does not affect humans but can cause skin lesions, fever, loss of appetite, and even death. It can also reduce milk production.

Officials give vaccine shots to cattle at a farm in Gyeongsan, 250 kilometers southeast of Seoul, on November 1, 2023. (Yonhap)
