DUSHANBE, 04.12.2023 (NIAT Khovar) – A deal will be signed to allocate $100 million for the building of the Roghun hydroelectric power station, courtesy of the Saudi Fund for Development. This was revealed today after a meeting between the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Saudi Fund for Development Sultan Abdulrahman Al-Marshad.
“Today I had a successful meeting with the President Emomali Rahmon. We talked about the financing of the Roghun HPP project from the Saudi Fund for Development. During my visit to Tajikistan, a ceremony will be held to sign the Agreement on allocating the Roghun HPP in the amount of $100 million,” said Al-Marshad.
He added that various aspects of collaboration were also discussed, and reminded that the Fund has been operating in Tajikistan since 2002. During this period, 12 development projects have been funded, which are considered essential for Tajikistan. The total amount of funding from the Saudi Fund for Development in various sectors of Tajikistan today is around $300 million.
According to him, the Saudi funding of this extremely important regional project is carried out on the basis that Saudi Arabia is interested in developing productive cooperation with Tajikistan, especially in the field of development.
“The Roghun hydropower project is considered one of the most important regional projects, since this project at full capacity in the future with an electricity production of 3.6 gigawatts will make a significant contribution to the development of not only Tajikistan, but also the Central Asian states and other neighboring countries of Tajikistan “, noted Sulton Abdulrahmon Al-Marshad.
The Fund CEO added this project (Rogun HPP), in addition to the fact that it makes a great contribution to the development of a green economy, also helps to prevent the consequences of climate change. «In this context, we attach great importance to the Roghun HPP project and will always be close to Tajikistan to implement this project. We will continue to invest in this project together with other partners and development funds. We hope that in the near future, with funding from other development partners, this project will be implemented and we will take part in its full commissioning ceremony,” said Al-Marshad.
In conclusion, he emphasized that in the future the Fund will participate in and finance other vital projects in Tajikistan. There are several development projects that have been taken up and assessed by the Saudi Fund for Development.
