The Korea Meteorological Administration announced on Monday that cold wave alerts have been issued for parts of Seoul and the central inland area as temperatures are expected to drop by more than 10 degrees Celsius overnight. These alerts are the first of the autumn season. Cold wave alerts are issued when the daily low temperature is forecast to decrease by 10 degrees or more in comparison to the day before, while cold wave warnings are released when the temperature drops by 15 degrees or more.

Tuesday morning lows across the country are expected to range from 1 to 12 degrees Celsius, which is a significant decrease from the 15 to 21 degrees recorded on Monday. The minimum temperature in Seoul is predicted to be 3 degrees, 12 degrees lower than Monday’s 15.4 degrees, and the apparent temperature is estimated to be even lower at minus 1 degree. In Incheon, the minimum temperature is projected to be 5 degrees, 7 degrees in Daejeon, 8 degrees in Daegu, and 11 degrees in Busan. In some northern parts of Gyeonggi and Gangwon Provinces, the apparent temperature may even drop below zero.

Additionally, snow is expected to fall in mountainous areas of Gangwon Province on Monday night, and in certain parts of Gyeonggi and North Gyeongsang Provinces on Tuesday morning. The cold snap is predicted to last until Wednesday, when temperatures are likely to dip below zero in some areas.

Last Thursday, most parts of the nation experienced the highest November temperatures on record, with unseasonably mild weather driving up the mercury to over 30 degrees Celsius in the southeastern city of Gimhae.
