SEOUL, Nov. 1 (Yonhap) — KG Mobility, formerly known as SsangYong Motor Co., reported on Wednesday that its sales had plummeted 51 percent in October compared to the same period in the previous year, as a result of reduced production.
The company sold 6,421 vehicles last month, a sharp decrease from the 13,156 units sold the year before. Domestic sales went down 52 percent to 3,804 units, while exports dropped 51 percent to 2,617.
“The integration of the No. 2 and No. 3 assembly lines at the Pyeongtaek plant had a major impact on the vehicle sales,” the statement read.
The sluggish economy and the launch of new models, such as the Torres EVX SUV, were not enough to reverse the downward trend.
From January to October, KG Mobility’s sales increased by 10 percent from 93,344 to 102,640 units. Domestic sales decreased by 3.4 percent, while exports rose 30 percent.
The carmaker’s current lineup includes the Tivoli, Korando, Rexton, Rexton Sports and Torres SUVs. In September, the Torres EVX SUV was added to the collection, and it is KG Mobility’s second electric vehicle after the Korando Emotion, which was released in the domestic market in February of 2022.
The Torres EVX is equipped with a lithium iron phosphate battery system and can travel more than 420 kilometers on a single charge.
