On Tuesday, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy reported that South Korea and Australia discussed ways to further strengthen their partnership in the energy sector, including the movement of carbon dioxide across borders. This discussion took place at the 32nd Korea-Australia Joint Committee on Energy and Mineral Resources meeting held in Sydney.

South Korea highlighted the importance of quickly completing preparations for transporting carbon dioxide between countries for carbon capture and storage projects. The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy described Australia as a “key partner” in the CCS sector and noted that it is the leading provider of mineral resources to South Korea and the leading destination for South Korean mineral firms.

During the meeting, South Korean companies, including Samsung C&T Corp. and SK E&S Co., signed five memorandums of understanding with Australian counterparts in the hydrogen and other green energy sectors.
