DUSHANBE, 17.05.2024 (NIAT Khovar) – Today, Kristalina Georgieva, the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), toured the premises of the Rogun hydroelectric power plant (HPP) during her trip to Tajikistan.

The representatives of the city of Rogun and the Rogun HPP warmly greeted the guests.

Georgieva and her team observed the progress of construction at the plant, including the construction of the world’s tallest rock-fill dam, standing at 335 meters.

During the visit, construction workers were busy laying materials, reinforcing the sides of the dam, and cementing its edges.

The guests also had the opportunity to view the overall construction site from the upper observation deck, situated at an altitude of 1300 meters above sea level.

They were also given a close-up look at the modern equipment installed in the GIS building, which distributes the electricity generated by the power plant into the national energy system through power transmission lines.

The turbine room was another stop on the tour, where special attention was given to the operation of the first two units and the ongoing preparations for the installation of additional units.

After the visit, Georgieva answered questions from journalists and expressed her admiration for the progress made on this massive project.

She stated, “Rogun is not only the hope and dream of Tajikistan for reliable electricity and sustainable economic growth, but also the hope and dream of neighboring countries for affordable electricity. This project also promotes green energy, and therefore, the IMF will fully support it.”
