In 2023, during a meeting of Parliament Committee, Customs Service Chairman Samat Isabekov announced that over 27 tons of confectionery poppy seeds were confiscated at Manas Airport.
According to Isabekov, the seized shipment actually contained 6.5 tons of drugs, making it the largest drug bust in history.
The official emphasized that this was the first time such a large quantity of drugs had been discovered and intercepted.
