Ministry of Culture Suggests Imposing Fines for Defamation and Insult in Media and Online

AKIPRESS.COM – The Ministry of Culture is proposing to implement fines for individuals and legal entities who commit defamation and insult through media and online platforms.

The proposed changes to the Code of Administrative Offenses are currently open for public discussion.

Individuals who insult others through media and online platforms could face a fine of 75 calculation indicators (equivalent to 7500 soms), while legal entities could face a fine of 230 calculation indicators (equivalent to 23,000 soms).

For defamation through media and online platforms, individuals could be fined 100 calculation indicators (equivalent to 10,000 soms), while legal entities could face a fine of 280 calculation indicators (equivalent to 28,000 soms).

The Ministry of Culture has observed a rise in the number of cases involving insults and the spread of false information through various media and online resources. The proposed amendments state that this behavior poses a threat to public morality and interpersonal relationships.
