Tajik Delegation Attends the WTO Ministerial Conference in Abu Dhabi

The 13th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization (WTO) was officially opened in Abu Dhabi on February 26, with the participation of Tajikistan’s delegation led by Minister of Economic Development and Trade Zavki Zavkizoda.

The conference covered various topics including WTO reform, dispute resolution, agriculture and food security, fisheries subsidies, trade and environmental sustainability, and the approval of the Investment Facilitation Agreement for Development and the organization’s work program for e-commerce.

In addition, the accession of countries to the WTO was a key focus of the conference, with the adoption of a Protocol for the accession of Comoros and Timor-Leste. After completing their internal procedures, these countries will officially become members of the WTO, increasing the number of member states from 164 to 166.

The Ministerial Conference, held every two years, is the highest governing body of the WTO and makes important decisions related to world trade in accordance with the organization’s provisions.

As a result of the conference, several joint global initiatives and declarations were adopted to strengthen trade and economic cooperation, address existing problems, and expand the multilateral trading system.
