Share of Non-cash Transactions Increased in Tajikistan

In Tajikistan, the proportion of non-cash transactions has risen. As of December 31, 2023, there were 6.7 million bank payment cards in circulation, a 32.6% increase from 2022. The Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan, Firdavs Tolibzoda, announced this during a press conference.

The number of e-wallets has also increased, reaching 8.7 million units, a 37.6% increase from 2022.

To facilitate non-cash payments, trade and service enterprises have installed 6,939 POS terminals, a 79.2% increase from 2022. Additionally, 12.6 uniform QR codes have been installed, a 28% decrease from the same time in 2022.

In 2023, domestic credit financial institutions in Tajikistan have installed 2,240 ATMs and 3,492 electronic terminals at bank branches.

In 2023, there were 21.8 million non-cash transactions worth 15.5 billion somoni made in trade institutions and service providers through electronic payment methods (payment cards and e-wallets).

The ratio of cash withdrawals to non-cash payments for goods and services using electronic payment methods was 80% to 20% in 2023, with a 8 percentage point increase in the share of non-cash transactions compared to 2022.
